Heritage and History
Founded in the 1950s, Carefree is one of the earliest planned communities in Arizona, with a reputation for natural desert beauty, including towering rock outcroppings, giant boulders, and spectacular views. Residents and visitors enjoy a blend of old west history and small town charm. The town offers both recreational and resort style living, with an emphasis on outdoor activities. Removed from the heavily paved metro areas, residents enjoy biking, hiking, camping, picnicking, golf, and more, under wide open southwestern skies.

In honor of the area's historic homesteaders and ranchers, we've named the roads in our community after the cattle that were their livelihood: the Brangus, the Brahma, the Longhorn, the Charlais…

Climate & Environment
The area is known for its stunning beauty and abundance of sunny days. Higher elevations make air temperatures 8° to 10° cooler than in Phoenix. Hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, boating, golfing and swimming become year-round activities. Arizona's ski resorts, Ponderosa Pine forests, lakes, and rivers are all within easy driving distance.

Carefree Ranch is on the northern edge of Scottsdale and the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, affording easy access to the everyday conveniences of schools, airports, banks, groceries, churches, and medical facilities, including the world-famous Mayo Clinic. The area also provides gourmet dining, shopping, cultural and sporting events. The town of Carefree has a suitable motto: "Home of cowboys and caviar, here the Old West meets the new."
